Hazardous Waste Recycling Registration

Categories of Hazardous waste for recycling

As per schedule iv of the HW (MH&TM) rules 2008 the hazardous waste for recycling requiring registration may be grouped under the following broad categories:

  1. Used oil and Waste Oil
  2. Non Ferrous metal waste (including Zn, Cu, Cd, Lead and spent catalyst etc)
  3. Electronic Waste
  4. Pant and Ink Sludge/residue

The recycling of waste is one of the important component in the process of sustainable devolopment. There is an increasing need of veiwing all kinds of wastes as unutilized resources and all possible effortts are required to be made to reuse, recover and recycle waste irrespective of their type and the sources of their generation. The recycling of hazardous waste also become important as disposal of such waste in TSDF is expensive and leaves a permenant negative environmental footprint. The recycling of hazardous wastes such as used oil waste oil and non ferrous metal waste etc is in fact directly linked with the conservation of the resources. Moreover the recycling of hazardous waste reduces the burden on storage and disposal facilities and also leads to significant reduction of carbon foot print in most cases.
